WhiteHouse.gov, now powered by Drupal

Since the days of the Bush administration, the official White House web site has used a proprietery content management system.  Today, the web site is being powered by the popular Drupal content management platform.

The decision to use Drupal instead of the proprietery system was made in order to provide a more flexible and extendable environment for developers and maintainers of the web site.  The Obama Administration tasked General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) with finding a more flexible system which would be ideal for such features as question and answer forums and live video streaming.  The White House says the solution was Drupal, resulting in a major victory for not ony Drupal, but the entire open-source community.
